Counterpoint is the art of combining melodies to produce good harmony. You can teach yourself by studying and copying what the masters did, but it can be difficult to find direction for your study and nearly impossible to evaluate your progress without a teacher.

Since 1999, I've taught counterpoint, music theory and composition at Universities, and also private lessons, to students ranging in age from 18 to 65. Working from Germany since 2016, I now offer private lessons primarily via correspondence through exchange of PDFs and MuseScore files. Submitted work is sent back thoroughly annotated with clear, precise explanations. When appropriate, I also write examples of counterpoint for your guidance. In-person lessons are also possible if you happen to be in Germany, but correspondence is preferred.
